Emergency Roof Leak Repair on a Longueuil Home

Rapid-response emergency repair to stop an active roof leak during a winter rainstorm on a residential property in Longueuil.

The homeowner contacted us during a winter rain event when water began entering through the ceiling of their second-floor bedroom. Active leaks during rain require immediate attention to prevent water damage to interior finishes, insulation, and the building structure. Our team arrived within hours to assess the situation. The source of the leak was traced to failed flashing at a chimney-to-roof intersection where the existing step flashing had corroded and separated from the chimney masonry. Wind-driven rain was penetrating the gap and running down the interior of the wall cavity before emerging at the ceiling below. We performed a temporary waterproofing repair to stop the active leak immediately, using roofing cement and temporary membrane coverage to seal the compromised area. Once the storm passed and conditions allowed for permanent work, we returned to perform a complete flashing replacement. The old step flashing and counter flashing were removed, the chimney masonry was cleaned and prepared, and new step flashing was woven into the existing shingle courses. New counter flashing was set into reglets cut in the mortar joints and sealed. The repair restored watertight integrity at the chimney intersection and eliminated the source of the leak. We also inspected the remainder of the roof and identified several other areas where flashing was beginning to deteriorate, allowing the homeowner to plan proactive maintenance before additional leaks developed.
